Teamwork in Backgammon?
Some gambling players think that backgammon is a lonely gambling game since it can only be played by two players at a time, unlike other gambling games such as poker. However, they are wrong to think that way. They must have never heard of the Backgammon Chouette ever in their life.
Backgammon Chouette is popular among several gambling players because of the money at stake. The money in Backgammon Chouette is relatively larger than that in backgammon games played with two people only.
In Backgammon Chouette, more than two gambling players may play in a single game. How is that possible? It's simple, a team of gambling players play against a single gambling player, which is called the box.
The team consists of the team captain and the crew. Each gambling player who is member of the crew is ranked. The ranking is important because it determines which gambling player replaces the team captain during the game, and who will be the next captain at the next game.
The difference here in Chouette is that when the box offers to double the stakes, not only a single opponent will decide on whether to accept or decline. Even if they belong to the team, gambling players will need to decide on their own once the box offers to double. If one of them declines, the game is still continued because the other members accepted the double stakes. If only one of them accepted the doubled stakes, that single gambling player is forced to decline or he must pay for the other members' cubes.
Some variants of chouette allow the members of the crew not only to accept or decline the doubling cube individually, but also offer the doubling cube. This makes the gambling game more exciting and the stakes for the box a lot higher.
Once the team captain declines from the game, he is replaced by the next gambling player in rank at his crew, and so on and so forth. At the end of the game, if the box wins, he retains his position as the box. But if the team wins, the team captain takes the position of the box, and the box becomes the lowest of the gambling players in rank. The captain will become the gambling player who is second highest in rank.
